DCBS Alert on DEC082435 GUARDIANS OF GALAXY PREM HC EARTH SHALL OVERCOME VAR ED 23
The price for this item has been changed by the vendor from $19.99 to $24.99. The original DCBS price was $11.99 and is now $14.99. All orders have been updated with the new price. Please let us know if you would like to cancel your order for this item due to the price change. We apologize for the inconvenience.
So, since I already have all the original comics, and this was a purchase "for the bookshelf", I have decided that the price increase is enough for me to bail on this book, as I don't really need it, it was a "nice to have".
In addition, since I'm not getting this one, I have also pulled the "Power of Starhawk" Premiere HC off my Feb order form, which was the follow-on to this TP.
2 TPB lost sales for Marvel......

Rasing the price is one thing, rasing it after you they already solicited it is another. I've gotten a few emails like this and I usually cancel them out of spite! Shouldn't piss off the people that buy your product.

I'm still trying to decide if I'm canceling or not. I'm planning on my binding my run of the '90s series and thought these HCs would be a nice addition to that. Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't just see about picking up the back issues and binding these myself as well. Even if it might cost me a little more, I think I might actual prefer have a bound set, with all the original ads and such. Guess I'll head over to mycomicshop.com and see what the prices are like.

Other than Marvel Super Heroes #14, you should be able to find most of the rest of those books in the $3-5 range.

Apparently the most recent Spider-Girl digest was raised from $9.99 to $14.99 as well.

I'm going to assume you meant MSH #18, which is out of stock at mycomicshop.com. The rest are in the range you mention but that's for grades of VG or less on all but the Defenders issues, where you could get FN for about $2 or VF for $4. I generally prefer FN or VF myself, so I may still get this book. The next volume is in the current Previews and is solicited at the $24.99 price, so it it doesn't look like there will be future price jumps after soliciation.

I ordered Power of Starhawk but did not even know the other one existed. I am glad I read this post because I want to add the other one to my order. It is a bummer that they raised the price but I consider that a fair price for a premiere hardcover and the discount makes it even more appealing.
I have recently been on a Steve Gerber kick so this will make a fine addition to my collection.

You're right, MSH #18, my bad! I always get 14 and 18 confused for some reason. It's not even like they have similar content.

If I didn't have all the original issues (which I read and re-read when they came out to the point that I remember them better than some comics that came out 2 years ago), I would still be getting them.
However, I am not as attached to the "Premiere HC" line as I am to the Masterworks. If this was a Masterworks, I'd be getting it. If I didn't have the originals, I'd be getting it.
PS: On the "fair price" front, be that as it may, but I'm looking at all the other Premiere HCs I have & they are all $19.99. This appears to be the opening salvo in an across-the-board price increase in TPB prices by Marvel. This is confirmed by the fact that the Black Widow & Balder the Brave Premiere HCs on the March advance solicits are also at $24.99.
What really bugs me is jacking up the price on Guardians AFTER they had solicited it and accepted orders. Poor form, Marvel.
So, "trade waiters" who thought they were immune from the price increases? Sorry.

Here's another one:
DCBS Alert on JAN092567 MMW WARLOCK HC VOL 02 VAR ED 119
The price for this item has been changed by the vendor from $54.99 to $59.99. The original DCBS price was $32.99 and is now $35.99. All orders have been updated with the new price. Please let us know if you would like to cancel your order for this item due to the price change. We apologize for the inconvenience.
Given that I am more attached to the MMW format than the Premiere HC format, I'm still going to get this one. (though the $59.99 price point has caused me to decide to stop collecting Golden Age & Atlas Era Marvel Masterworks). For me, Marvel is "all about the Silver Age".
Anyway, just another data point in the "Marvel raising prices" discussion.

Holy... I'm glad I forgot to order that! Now, that storyline is one of my favorites of all time, but I don't think I want to pay $60 for it.

Not the first time we have seen Marvel raise the price after solicitation either, unfortunately probably not the last either for the next 3 to 6 months.

Despite the increase, I'm still getting the two volumes of 70s Guardians stories because they were some of my favorite comics as a kid (although now I'm sure I'll go "Al Milgrom?? Really??!")
But in an effort to cut back on the spending, I'm cutting back on some of the Showcases, Essentials, and Masterworks that normally would make my list. Lesser stuff like Martian Manhunter Volume 2 Showcase or the second volume of Atlas Era Journey into Mystery gets the hook. I'll still stick it out for Golden Age Cap, Young Allies, Human Torch, Sub-mariner or the DC Showcase on Superman, Batman, or the Legion.

Well, it seems that Marvel could adjust prices down, as well.
Spider-Woman #2 (MAR092554D, $2.99; FOC 06/11/09), solicited as $3.99 in the March 2009 Marvel Previews, will in fact be $2.99, as listed in the March 2009 PREVIEWS Retailer Order Form.
