ROUND TABLE: Collecting Now vs. Then - Tue Oct. 21: 9pm east

Post by BobBretall »

We'd like to do a Round Table discussion next Tuesday on the topic of how collecting is different now vs. 10 years ago (vs. 20 vs. 30).

If you're interested in joining us:

* Do you have Skype (or a US Phone # John can call)?

* Will you be available for 60-90 minutes on Tuesday Oct 21st, 9pm Eastern?

* Do you have some thoughts/experiences you'd like to share?

If so, e-mail theGuys@ComicBookPage.com and let us know......

PS: Here is an excerpt from the e-mail from Randy Zingaro that got us thinking of this topic:
I think you guys should do a Show on "What the Hell Has Happened to the Comics Industry and Collecting". I'm sure there are others out there who would like to stick there toe in to collecting again but the cost is so prohibitive. You cant find them just anywhere anymore like you could when I was collecting, they are so damn expensive. They put out WAY too many. Is all this Necessary? How does one justify the expense? Plus, since I have been out of it for so long, I need an overview on what has happened to the industry in the last ten years. There were no "Trades" or "Hardcovers" back then that I knew of. Bring us uninformed up to speed. Also, I;m not to happy about the practice of "Rebooting". I always assumed that the comics existed in a time line all there own that perhaps mimicked ours but lengths weren't necessarily the same."Heroes Reborn" comes to mind. I almost quit buying Marvel when that Happened. I know you've talked about some of these things before but it would be nice to have a "Comics101/1999-Present".

Sounds like a great topic for a Round Table discussion guys. Unfortunately my in-laws are coming into town tomorrow for a week so I won't be able to participate live, but I look forward to hearing the podcast when it's released.

I have skype and would be interested in participating. My Skype ID is TrevAC.

I collected as a kid from the late 70's until the late 80's. Then picked it back up as an adult about 4 years ago.

Now I need to update my blog since I mentioned it. Lots of sketches from Baltimore to post and Wizard World coming up.
