Is there anyone in the community heading to Boston in a few weeks? The Wife and I are going to a con for the first time and would love to meet up for lunch or whatever.

If anyone has gone to boston before, any suggestions in regards to parking, etc? Is it better to take the T?

Cheers,

Hank the Crank

Yes, take the T. I lived in the Boston area for 4 years and I always took the T, driving is a nightmare within Boston. Unless they have moved the convention it actually is pretty easy to get to from the T.

I'm planning on going. Not sure which day yet, Sat or Sun. I'll know closer to the con. I may be able to meet up for lunch. There's the Prudential Center mall attached to the Hynes Convention center that has food options.

I'm planning on driving but not sure where to park yet. I might drive around and park on the street somewhere, and pump a meter full of quarters. Maybe I'll just pony up the cash for one of the nearby parking garages. If you're willing to walk a few blocks you might be able to get in a parking garage for like $10 because it's a weekend.

Boston Comic Con is small but a real comic book artists’ convention. I went on Sunday and got right in without waiting in line. There wasn’t one comic book writer that had a table. Also there weren’t any media personalities, like a Lou Ferrigno, which is good. It was all about comic books which is real smart. The only publisher there was Zenescope. Zenescope is the first comic book publisher I’ve seen attend Boston Comic Con.

I really enjoyed meeting Bernie Wrightson as he is one of my all-time favorite artists and an overall nice guy. He’s got the sequel to his Frankenstein coming out soon which I look forward to. It was amazing to meet Mad's Al Jaffee, who’s 91 years old, and he signed a book for me. I wanted to get a signature from Al Feldstein but you had to buy a $20 print which I didn’t want. I also talked with Bob Layton for a bit and he signed an Iron Man hard cover for me. Bob’s working more on writing for like small movies and less on comics. He has a movie called the Shambler coming out next summer. I stopped by Sean Murphy’s table and his new creator owned comic called Punk Rock Jesus seems really cool. He said it will be coming out in July from Vertigo.

I also spoke briefly and looked at artist portfolios with Jeremy Bastian, Joe Benitez, Stephanie Buscema, Mark Brooks, Jo Chen, Jim Cheung, Geof Darrow, Daniel Govar, Greg Horn, Jamal Igle, Phil Noto, Matteo Scalera, and Chrissie Zullo. All of these artists listed were very kind and happy to talk about their work. There were a few artists who I tried to talk with but were a bit grouchy but I’m not naming anybody. All in all, a great con, and I plan on going next year!

I picked up at the con:

Wolves mini comic from Becky Cloonan (I read it and it’s awesome. I can see from this comic why she was picked for Conan.) $5
Bernie Wrightson 11x17 Signed Print from his first Frankenstein $20
Daniel Govar sketchbook with Aquaman head sketch $15
Wonder Woman sketch card from young artist Tracy Lee Quin $10
Scalped Vol 6 (I’m way behind on my Scalped reading) $7.50
Warlord Showcase $5 (I love Warlord comics and haven’t read all of these first 28 issues yet)
Low Concept 2 $11.99 (the 11 O’Clock comics podcast anthology. I didn’t realize this is the size of an entire large trade)
