Here's a list of the store closings, you can see if your local store will be closing:

Looks like the location near my house will be staying open for now....

It looks like three locations here in Austin are closing including the store on South Lamar, the one at the Domain and the one at Southpark Meadows. Are there any other Borders locations in Austin or is that all of them?

I’m more of a B&N guy but it does look like the one Border’s I would occasionally go into is on the list to be closed. That is kind of a bummer.

Though I don't live near a Borders, it is reminiscent of when a local chain of book stores closed in my area which was very surprising and extremely disheartening. This appears to be a sad trend.

Well I guess I should stop by my local store since it is on the chopping block.

Anyone get some deals at their local Borders before they closed? I went on the second to last day, 80-90% off. I only found Return of the Dapper Men (4.99) and a Iron Man paperback book (1.60). Not to bad of a deal.

I kept on checking in but all the stuff I was interested in went when the discount was only 25% and I could still get the books cheaper from Amazon.
I miss going in there on Fridays nights for a coffee and browse with my wife. Even though they were expensive we still ended up buying something every week even if it was just some UK magazines.

Yes, but not on comic book stuff. I found a couple of programming books I was interested in.

We went to the closest store to us that was closing (up in Orange) on the way up to WonderCon, and it was almost completely picked over. They had some really nice shelving units I could have gotten if I had a truck.

My son, Stephen, go a RPG hardcover he'd been wanting for 80% off, and it was about the only interesting item left in the place.

On the plus side, they gave me a 50% off coupon with the purchase that I used to finally get the Earth-One HC by JMS at the Borders near my house that's staying open.

My Borders that's closing ("sometime in May" is the word) had 30% off graphic novels. Not a great savings, but I also had a gift card so I wanted to use it. They still had a decent selection and I got American Vampire volume 1 hardcover and the Wolverine Weapon X hardcover where Logan was in an insane asylum. I think that was the second arc. It's supposed to be good and I'm digging Aaron's work on the current Wolverine series. Anyway, between the discount and the gift card, it only cost me $12 for for the two books so I can't complain.

One interesting thing I overheard as a customer was talking to someone who appeared to be more of a manager than a clerk. The customer was saying that it was sad about the store closing. The employee agreed and went on to say that the store was still profitable. They just couldn't get another lease on the building. I wonder if their are any other cases like that?

From what I have read there are numerous cases like that. The second round of closings that they announced, which I don't remember the number of stores listed but it included the one where I used to live, was all because they couldn't negotiate new leases. The article also said that a lot of the Borders stores are paying way more for some of their stores than the stores around them, which probably is a good part of their failing.

I made a few trips through the Borders that was closing here and picked up the final two Runaways trades I needed to complete my trade-run on that series ($3.30 apiece). Also picked up a GREAT new manga series called Ninja Girls (hey SHUT UP! Just cuz' it's got cute ninja girls in it don't mean it ain't good'r nuthin'! :) ). Seriously, I wouldn't have considered this series beforehand, but at $2 a volume, hard pressed not to at least check it out. Glad I did! Also got Iron Man 2 on Blu Ray for half off.

I am now Borderless. :)
