Xombi #1 - I've never read a milestone comic before in my life. But the interviews with writer John Rozum intrigued me.

What I got was a 5/5 comic book. Excellent artwork with inventive panel usage. A compelling, albeit kooky storyline. A mix of humour, strangeness and horror that worked pefectly.

It's gone straight on the Mail Order pull list.

Grim Ghost #1 (Atlas) - Tony Isabella writing & Kelley Jones on art, 2 creators I like a lot however I thought Jones's art took a HUGE turn for the worse. I might have been the inker or the colorist but whatever it was it did not work for me. The story was just alright. Maybe my expectations were so high because of the creative team and my excitement for a new universe.

Sigil #1 (Marvel) - Now this story I thought is off to a great start. Enjoyed the story and the artwork and I am excited for the next issue. Great launch so far of the Crossgen Universe and I am ready to try out Ruse.

I just bought this for the Atlas revival & was oblivious to the creators until I sat down to read the comic. Jone has an inker (Eric Layton) which is why it doesn't look like "pure Jones". Since I saw that, it explained why it only "kind of" looked like his art. Thought it was decent enough. Your disappointment in the book is a good example of how having a certain expectation that you're "looking forward to" can seriously alter your enjoyment of a book when it does not live up to your expectation.

Herculian #1 (Image) - Great story of two distant brothers discussing marriage while a huge super-hero fight is happening out side. Erik Larson printed this in magazine style format and it was awesome. Supersize Fun!! I believe he created this work in a 24 hour period.

Wolverine/Hercules #1 (Marvel) - Two long time friends meet at a bar and talk about old times. Great dialog. Frank Tieri brings back a Hercules villain and Wolverine villain to plot against the two heroes. Art very nice.

along the same lines.... I love Dean Zachary's work, but the colourist on Atlas Originals title, Phoenix didn't do his work any favours.

I picked this one up at the LCS over the weekend. Loved it. Both the story and art were great. I will also start to pick this one up.

Venom #1 - This almost got a orange score from me because it wasn't terrible but I didn't enjoy it. Like the guys said, go read Fear Agent. And it made me want to go read that again and stay away from this book. I really liked the idea and concept but the delivery just wasn't there for me. Ah well, I tried.

FF #1 - I put this one on the top of my stack today because I wanted to see where they went with the Fantastic Four. While the issue was mostly plot development and catch up on what has occurred since Fantastic Four #588, it left me waiting anxiously for the next issue. It also answered a explained some things from #588 that weren't obvious because of the lack of dialogue in that issue.

All in all I would give it a 4/5 and will definitely be picking up future issues.

I agree. I picked up a blank sketch cover & read this today. I really liked it (Valeria is still my favorite character in Hickman's FF) but there was nothing here that could not have been in Fantastic Four #589. This really didn't feel like much of a new start for a #1. As just another issue of FF it was a 4/5.

Fear Itself Prologue: Book of the Skull (Marvel) - As the prologue to Marvel's big "Fear Itself" event, this should have gotten me all excited and itching to read the main event. It didn't. Nothing here really resonated with me or got me particularly excited. I was expecting to be waiting on the edge of my seat for the event to begin. Nope.
Maybe I was expecting too much.

Iceman & Angel #1 (Marvel) - Juan Doe's art was a little rough on some of the faces, but he nailed the big monster, and the real treat here was Clevenger's dialogue. Namor just wanted a bagel....*heh* I loved this.

Phoenix #1 (Atlas) - I really liked this one, art style was kind of different, but it suits the story. An update of the name/concept from the original Atlas series, totally different but it feels right. A fitting origin for a character named "Phoenix".

I actually disagree with this. After reading it I'm actually more excited about the upcoming event. However, as you said it might be a case of expectations. I wasn't super excited about the upcoming event so I had room to become more excited.

I didn't go in excited and I don't come out excited either. I had plenty of room to become excited.

My expectation was that in the prologue to Marvel's BIG EVENT, that the story would have gotten me excited. It didn't.

The last panel "reveal" was not particularly climactic to me, and had I not read news articles about the "9 hammers" it would have been totally incomprehensible as well.

I don't know if I would have found it incomprehensible, but you are right that with all of the promotion they have been doing that last scene was anticlimactic. I actually had expected it throughout the entire book, I was just waiting for a hammer to appear.

I didn't think of any of this until you mentioned it, I think you killed it a little for me

Undying Love #1 (Image) - A decent first issue but it didn't really hook me yet. To me it was a mish mash of the book Twilight, and the comics Daredevil and Punisher. I liked the art by Tomm Coker, and the coloring by co-writer Daniel Freedman was nice also. I didn't know if I was supposed to take the story seriously or not, it made me chuckle a few times because it was so corny. I'm willing to give it another shot and I'll probably be on board for the first arc for the pretty art set in China.

Nonplayer #1 (Image) - As we've all noticed from the previews, you can just look at the pages of this issue and be happy. I think along with the art, the color is gorgeous.

As for the story, nothing super but it's pretty entertaining and I'm wanting to see what happens next. So combine a pretty good story with unbelievable art, it's a 5/5.

Butcher Baker: The Righteous Maker #1 (Image) - I have to say this comic was a fun read. I liked the Leno joke, and the Buford T. Justice reference. The actual story maybe didn't end perfectly because there wasn't a real hook to keep you going for next issue. it actually ended like a one-shot if you ask me. But I'll keep reading for awhile, it seems like a fun read that you don't take seriously.
