This is the place to discuss the episodes of the Comic Book Page podcast, the Comic Book Page website or pretty much anything else of interest to the Comic Book Page community...

Sorry, I had to go look at a copy because the page with the code is after the X-Men vs Avengers promo and I didn't flip that far (when you read 5-10 Marvel comics a week you tend to get bored with the same advertisement comic over and over).
Anyway, the sticker is over the code. You have to peel it off and then you can get the code.

This makes sense as it will reduce theft of digital codes.
On the other hand, having to physically remove a sticker, for people who care about collecting/grading, what does removing the sticker do to the grade of the book?

I guess this is different than the beginning of Image when you clipped out coupons for Image #0 or whatever. At least the page is still intact.
If removing the sticker doesn't hurt the page at all, then I would guess no one could care except for people who care about specialized things, like those Jeweler ads or newsprint vs. direct.

I agree to some extent. I think what will actually happen is this will create another gray area in grading (just what we need ). The people who don't care will grade 1 way, the ones that do will probably drop it a half grade or so.
Personally I don't care about the code and won't use it, so I just leave the sticker intact. However, if I bought a second hand copy of any of these issues for my own collection I wouldn't care if the sticker was missing, as long the page is still intact.

I liked this one. Bendis being Bendis, 4 pages of action (in a flashback to WWII) and then 16 pages of talking heads, but great dialogue. I think I pretty much caught up on the gist of AvX and don't really think I'm missing much by not reading the 40 or so other comics. One thing I can say is that Namor's new look is horrendous.
Well worth $1, even $3. I don't think it was worth $4, though.

This made me curious on how people use their free digital codes. The only title I regularly get with the included code is ASM and I will search for the sticker with the code in the back of the issue (carefully, as the sticker is not always at the very back of the issue and you may see something spoileriffic out of the corner of your eye), enter it, and put the physical copy away and read it digitally, having never actually read the physical comic. Ironically, this method is the least damaging to the comic itself as I'm not handling it as I'm reading it, while at the same time I've "defaced" the book in some degree by removing the sticker.
I suppose this method begs the question as to why even get the physical copy in the first place if I'm only getting it for the digital code? Fair enough. Thinking about it though makes me realize that I do like having the physical book for some reason. I get some satisfaction from being able to enjoy the cover art in the flesh, so to speak. I've only purchased a few books digital only and although I like reading comics online, especially in guided view, I still feel like I should have more for my money than just the digital version of the comic.
So what do you all do? Redeem the code but still read the physical book? Give the code to someone else? Redeem the code and read both the physical and digital versions? If you don't redeem at all, why? Is it to protect the grade of the book or are you just not interested in reading it digitally?

I don't pull the sticker all the way off. I peel it back enough to see the code. I find that if I carefully moisten it slightly it will then stick back down. If I then close & bag/board the comic it keeps it in as close to "as new" condition as possible.

I don't touch them but that's because I have no interest in reading them digitally, especially if I already own the hard copy. When I read a comic I barely hold it so it's still like new when I'm done.

One of the comics I pulled out of a $1 bin last weekend was X-Men #28. This was to X-Men comics what Uncanny Avengers was to Avengers comics.
I liked it because it had Skrulls, the FF, Spider-Man......it read like a regular Marvel comic as opposed to an X-Men comic (if that makes any sense).
I really liked that issue and the next one as well. In general I've been happy with the X-Men title, it's been pretty good since I joined around #25 or so.
