Materiel is actually correct, it is used in a military context all the time.

Nice! Thanks for the vocab lesson, Bob. I actually didn't have that one. Military terminology is a weak area for me.

I don't have any actual time in the military, but I worked as a programmer & designer on SW defense contracts with the Navy, Army & Air Force for 13 years when I worked for TRW..... you pick up various bits of lingo working with the folks in uniform.

I showed this post to my wife and her comment was it is just not the comic book editors but the publishing world as a whole has gotten much worse in catching grammar mistakes. She catches a lot of mistakes in the books she reads as well. She is an high school English teacher by the way.

5th page of the Huntress story

The word balloons are switched:
Helena is having a student help her, as punishment, in delivering some donations to a family and the Kid is actually saying Helena's 3 balloons worth of dialouge.

I was already having a hard time reading the story as is and this just took me further out of it

I noticed the flipped word balloons when reading it for the Christmas 2008 Back Issue Spotlight episode but didn't think to mention it here. Thanks for doing so. This is the sort of error which really ought to get caught in the proof reading stage.

I think it should be, "Until you're looking down."

I thought this was funny because this is also the big pull quote on the back of the trade where it's correct but inside it's a whoops. It's still a good trade nonetheless.

A nice blog post by Mark Waid on the job of the editor.

After seeing that and hearing you talk to Mark Waid I would love to hear you do an episode on the role of an editor. Maybe talk to Mark, Len Wein, Roy Thomas, or others.

The role of the inker would be interesting, too. Maybe some old school guys and someone new like Dan Parsons (Star Wars). Talk about brush VS Pen or digital.

Comics Editor's Job

This isn't so much a "when editors don't do their job", rather it's when an artist doesn't.

Well before you get to harsh on the artist, a) you don't know if it was the editor that asked for that cover b) when so many artist don't give credit to who they are swiping it from, it actually nice to see someone give credit to the original artist.

I believe Steve Bryant mention he actually preferred artist that do this kind of cover to give credit in this matter and I would agree with him.

You misunderstand.

I don't have a problem with someone doing an "After..." cover and acknowledging the original artist, but he is crediting the WRONG original artist, that is what Chris & I were commenting on.

This is "After Romita, Sr.", NOT "After Ditko"

Thus my comment about at least knowing who you are swiping from.
