Comic Collector Software

I've been using Collectorz for about a year now after hearing Bill talk about it even before his show started and it was also in a price bracket that I could afford so if I'm about I could also talk about it as a newish user and as someone who wasn't grandfathered in and has to pay for any major version updates.

Anyone know of a program that can run on a mac? It seem that collectorz has mac support on all their programs except for the comic collection program. I have been using comicbookdb, but would like a non browser based program preferably with barcode support.

Exactly! I too use comicbookdb, because I use a Mac. If anyone is aware of a successful Mac database program...please share.

I use Comic Collector Live...been using it for awhile now
I tried comicbookdb but it just became a hassle

I am kinda pissed that Comic Collector Live is moving to a subscription fee but I will probably pay it since I have my collection in it

I had an interesting conversation with a fellow software guy a WWTX this year about building a good Web 2.0 software package for comics. So much that's out there is crap and comicbase, while good at what it does, makes me feel like it's 1999 every time I use it . . .

they claim it is so they can stay afloat in the current economic times.

It is not hte first time this has happened I first had my collection catalouged through the Wizard Mag Online. Then THEY charged about 5 dollars to keep it open (which I paid) and then a few months later they shut the site down completely with no explaination of why even though I tried to find out...another reason why I dropped Wizard

ComicsPriceGuide just changed up their website and now you need to be logged in to see issue level data. I had been using this site to grab cover images for the episode icons but wit the change to the site, that system is now broken.

So, I'm now looking for a new source for cover images. Any suggestions?

The grand comic db (www.comics.org) is what I use when I need one that's recent or a particular size. They have covers at 3 different scales. Very nice.

Also, I've used the covers that come with Comicbase as well. I've got the archive edition coming (Bob probably has it already), which has some insane number of covers with it. Comicbase is sending cover scans with their weekly updates now as well.

I'm not sure how fast ComicBase releases new covers, do they really get out all the new covers the same week the comics come out? (for purposes of the show icon, we would need very current covers that hit the stands within about a week).

In any event, I certainly don't update my ComicBase every week, I generally toss books into a longbox as I read them, when the box fills up, they get alphabetized within that box and then scanned into ComicBase (the whole box in one sitting, bar code reader makes that easier).

I update my Comic Base weekly and I love that it now downloads the covers every week for every issue. The new version of ComicBase Atlas is awesome. For those we missed over the last year you simply right click on a collection of titles and hit "Download Cover" and bang in a matter of no time you have the covers.

I love ComicBase. It is expensive but well worth it to me. I love the reporting capability as it really helps me to fill holes in my collection from mycomicshop.com

I'm in the same position. I have a Mac and have found it very irritating that there is a lack of good comic book database software for Mac users. There is http://www.delicious-monster.com/ for Mac, which I have read on other forums works well for comics. I am however going to go the route of Bootcamp on my MacBook Pro, and run Windows XP. As loathed as I am to run Windows, I am really excited to accurately catalog my collection. I'll probably go with collectorz.com, it gets good reviews and is well priced. Hope this helps.

I've been testing Booxter for the Mac. You can drag and drop from ComicBookDB, which is cool. I haven't yet been able to manually enter a UPC and have it work. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. I don't yet have a bar code scanner. I think the program is a bit expensive at $49.99. I'll probably go with it because there isn't anything else for the mac. You can download it and try it out for up to 30 titles. Has anyone else out there had any experience with Booxter?

Because this thread gets a bump in it once in awhile, I think one of the things we need to put in our discussion is the criteria we are looking for when it comes to storing information about our collection. It would help us recommend websites/software and talk about the pros and cons of any of them.
