I do think it is too early to judge either way. However, I tend to be more excited for an event done by Geoff Johns than an event done by any other person.
I don't read the X-Men books, and Fear itself does not have 15 associated minis (yet...), so there's a bit of a difference.

On the Flashpoint event itself, I'm totally bought into the main series by Geoff Johns. I'm just saying I am not "sold" on pre-ordering 15 minis, and further, the info I have seen has not, in me, generated a huge amount of excitement around those minis.

Main series. Yes - excited.

15 minis. Mostly ambivalent, I need to see more to get me excited.

YMMV

That's fair. My comment is on the Marvel teasers that really don't get me too excited anymore.

I can't argue with you there. I still have no concrete idea what Fear Itself is going to be about.

Outside of the Batman book none of those other books sound all that interesting to me, and even the Batman book only has me slightly interested.

Sounds like you're another person who does not have their excitement level amped up by DC's "teaser-heavy" crypto-marketing style.

If I saw a few pages from these books and a more detailed (than 1 sentence) premise, I might have a different feeling.

I can see that DC wants to drive excitement by starting promotion early, and that works with a certain segment of the fan base. For others (like me) it starts me off with a negative impression that I now have to be brought back up from. I hope (for DC's sake) that a lot more people fall into the excited category than the turned-off category.

In this economy in particular, they're taking a big chance. I was thinking about the Blackest Night tie-ins and there weren't as many and you basically knew what you were getting: Blackest Night Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Teen Titans and JSA (I think that was all the minis). I forget all of the writers, but the artists were all top names pretty much. Eddie Barrows did Superman and JSA, Nicola Scott did Wonder Woman, Ed Benes did the Teen Titans.

Preview pages would certainly help the overall cause. I will say I did like the first couple of What If scenarios they through out there. However, if these books are the payoff then I am not all that interested.

FLASHPOINT: BATMAN, KNIGHT OF VENGEANCE
Writer: Brian Azzarello
Art: Eduardo Risso
* Bruce Wayne running a casino, Azzarello/Risso have me sold on this one.

I must say, other than the Batman one by Azzarello/Risso, I'm not particularly excited by any of these. It seems like DC is giving a LOT of this over to relatively new talent. That could be a good thing, or it could be not-so-good.

What it does NOT do is give me the confidence to pre-order any of this stuff (other than the Batman by Azzarello) unless DCBS has it at a BIG discount.

Given sales lately, these creative teams do not sound like something that will cause most of these books to break 20k (with the exception of the Azz/Risso Batman)
That's my view as well - the Batman one is the only one I'll order.

will this Event cross over into regular monthly titles? Or will it be exclusively Flashpoint, Flash & the minis? Or a bunch of other DC books, as well?

While I was critical of DC last week, I have to give it to them this week. This round of books really interests me. Scott Snyder and Gene Ha - wow! I'm definitely getting Superman, Wonder Woman and Lois Lane. I'm a little unsure about Kid Flash as I'm not familiar with the artist, but I do want to support anything written by Sterling Gates so I'll probably get it. The Frankenstein book will probably be excellent too...

The big question remains - when will these be released (not all in the same month, I hope) and will at least some of the regular titles be going on hiatus? That would definitely help.

I agree that this week's batch seems on the whole more compelling than what I saw last week.

Hmm, given the sheer number of these titles I would rather just buy a trade that contains all of these titles. The problem is I know Marvel would put out a decent trade package for this stuff. I have found DC so hit and miss with their trades that is hard for me to have faith.
