Z-Girl & The 4 Tigers-new self-published comic at NYCC
A friend of mine, Kirk Manley, has co-created a new comic called Z-Girl & The 4 Tigers. He'll be at NYCC, with co-creator Jeff Marsick plugging/selling the book. The first self-published issue of the comic will be available at the show. Make sure to drop by their table to check it out.
In a nutshell, the comic is about a zombie with a conscience who has spent centuries teamed up with four powerful spirits fulfilling the prophecies of the ancient Chinese philosopher, Lao-Tzu. Currently operating as a special forces team in the secretive Department of Irregular Warfare, Z-Girl and her Tigers wage war against the devils, demons and monsters that threaten humanity.
The premiere issue -- #0 -- contains 3 separate tales that span 3 different time periods. All three stories are tied together with a framing sequences of Z-Girl and her mentor Lao-Tzu in ancient 5th century BC. Along with a generous guest artist pin up gallery featuring works by Ron Salas, Rick Cortes, Euan Mactavish, Marc Lamming and many more, Book #0 contains character bios to complete a comprehensive 44 pages of action, adventure, horror and SciFi all in one.
Zgirl & the 4 Tigers will be on sale at the STUDIO Z small press booth in the small press area of the NYCC show. Booth number 344. The limited edition premiere book will be available at the booth where you can meet the book's writer and get an original sketch done by the books artist.
Here's a sneak peak at the comic:

Kirk is a really talented guy - I acutally met him back in the 90's at the NY School of Visual Arts in a comic book art class taught by Carmine Infantino! (you can see where that class got ME! lol).killyrcomics wrote:Ditto, where can we get a copy if we're not lucky enough to be at NYCC?IanG wrote:Sounds cool, what if we're not at NYCC, is there a way to get the comic?
Think it will be offered through Diamond or maybe digitally?
That art looks REALLY cool. Thanks for sharing.
Unless things go REALLY well at NYCC, I don't think they'll be able to meet the Diamond quotas. I mentioned to them the prospect of approaching DCBS about it though. Don't they have a program for supporting self-publishers? First Light? Something like that?
Aside from that, as I mentioned above, I think they'll be selling through their website.

If he decides to go through DCBS's "Publishers Not In Previews" section he's got at least some customers from this forum. That's how it's listed on their spreadsheet. I'd suggest offering some sort of free goodie like a signed print or maybe a small sketch card to go along with the comic for a first timer. I know that always helps push me over the edge when I'm taking a chance on an Indy comic. The creator probably has to email customer service to find out about it.

Lenny, if he needs an introduction to Cameron @ DCBS, I'd be happy to lend a hand.
