I'll come in late with Irredeemable #1 I liked it! It was a bit of a quick read, which I didn't like, but I enjoyed the story, and the art was OK, not great. The part with the kids didn't bother me; it's not like he tortured them or anything (and I have a 4 year old and 20 mth old). I really liked the slow reveal of the situtation with that jewel in the forhead guy at the end. Good use of art + story. The rest of the characters were kind of weak, but given that not much was told about them, I'm blaming that on the art, not the writing. I'm sure the characters will come into their own in future issues. I'm on board.

Black Panther #1 - I just read the relaunch and absolutely loved it. It was amazing and to me just as good as it was before the hiatus. Loved number 2 as well. Black Panther overall is probably one of my favorite marvel books going back to since Priest was writing it. I love Wakanda!!!!

I like Black Panther v4 as well. The story kept my attention and also wanting more. The art in knocking it out of the park. It's getting kicked around in the reviews and forums on Comics news sites though. I'm new to Black Panther so I don't have much to lose with this new series.

Exiles #1 (Marvel) - This issue was a lot of fun and a great set-up. The art is cartoon like but it fits the comical tone of the story. I haven't done any background reading with Exiles so I didn't know what to expect. I felt a little lost not knowing much about all the characters. I'm going to wait for the trade paperback on this one. For my money, I think it will read better that way.

Daredevil Noir #1 (of 4) (Marvel) - The story didn't really break any new ground for me on the Daredevil mythos. I think I'll have to read more in the next issues to really make a determination on the writing. The art was really nice and I think added to the advancement of the story. The regular Daredevil title is already very noir influenced. I'm not sure how this title separates itself enough from that. I already have issue two on pre-order and it's only a four issue series so I'll finish it up.

Warlord #1 (DC) - This is a great first issue that leaves me with wanting more. The artwork didn't make me say wow but it was good for this type of story. I read Warlord when I was a kid but I don't still have those issues. I'd like to read the first twelve issues or so in trade, but it's not readily available. I think DC dropped the ball so far on the trade, especially if this new 3rd series really takes off in popularity. I know DC is probably in a wait and see mode after that last Warlord series.

Ignition City #1 (of 5) (Avatar) - This is an interesting mystery and adventure type story. You've got a lot of good influences from Indiana Jones but with retro sci-fi twist. The designs of the buildings and vehicles in the backgrounds are amazing. There's a lot to look at there in the backgrounds which is fun. You've got a couple gross out scenes as you would expect from Warren Ellis and Avatar. I'm looking forward to the rest of this series.

If you like this go back and read the Priest stuff and the Hudlin stuff. Also the Jason Aaron Secret Invastion tie in should blow your mind.

Vikings #1 - Wasn't errible, art was ok. The painted art and then computer art look kept throwing me off though. It was interesting enough but I think I'll stick with Northlanders to get my fill of this genre.

Sherlock Holmes #1 (Dynamite) - I have been looking forward to this mini-series coming out being a big Sherlock Holmes fan and I was not dissapointed. Enjoyed the story and where it is going and the cliff hanger at the end of the book was very good as well. There are enough panels where there is no background art for me to notice but for me it didn't take away from the story. Good story, good art. I will be around for the rest of the series.

This pretty much sums my thoughts on the book.

I grabbed it while at FCBD and am very happy with it.

Tankies #1 - Frist off, so good to see Carlos Ezquerra's art again! Carlos and Garth make a good team and this issue was no different. I love the dialogue and trying to understand is great. Garth is always at the top of his game when writing war stories. Can't wait for the last 2 issues "for fook's sake!"

Final Crisis Aftermath-Run #1
So the first of these books are out and this is the one about Human Flame.
It has a short recap of his role in Final Crisis (from his view point) then shows him waking up in the hospital from being treated from FC.

The Freddie Williams III art was great but who ever colored it made a mistake. Green Lantern (john Stewart) and Firestorm are examining the scene where a shootout between Human Flame and some gangsters took place and Firestorm is colored white and looks more Ronnie Raymond then Jason Rausch.

Will give this 1 or 2 more issues before I make a decision about continuing and pick up the rest in back issues bins

.Final Crisis Aftermath-Dance #1

Dance, a six-issue mini-series follows the Super Young Team, a Japanese super-hero team inspired by American counterparts. The group is formed of Most Excellent Superbat, Big Atomic Lantern Boy, Shy Crazy Lolita Canary, Shiny Happy Aquazon and Well-Spoken Sonic Lightning Flash.

Super Young Team first appeared in Final Crisis—but, it was kind of easy to miss them as they were a little lost in the pages—in a good way. Final Crisis was not enough of an opportunity to really explore them in-depth. It wouldn't have been appropriate. However, this is that comic. I quite honestly never thought I would see them again since they are a Morrison creation.

Before Final Crisis these kids had super powers, but they spent most of their time getting drunk, partying, participating in some less than savoury things for a young super-hero team...Vague memories Superboy and the Ravers.

The art in this comic is truly unique I guess —it feels like a discoteque. Twitter is included in this comic. OMG.

This comic is exposition—and very heavy on explosition. The comic centres around the kids dealing with their publicist that only wants them to look “cool”. It is them talking about how they want to be more than super heroes—but ultimately nothing really happens in this first issue.

Overlook #1 (Image) - Good ol Tiki turned me onto this comic and I loved it. Just picked up #2 on the weekend and #3 comes out this week (I think). Down and out fighter who is really good at losing makes a deal to do kill somebody in exchange for a killing done on his behalf. Gritty b/w art, fun little mini series so far. Thanks Tiki!

Boys Herogasm #1 - I'm with Bob/John on this one. A little over the top, mostly set up but I trust Garth and the Boys that this will be a great mini. Loved the idea that they fake an alien invasion/summer crossover just to get away and have sex!

It has been awhile, since I posted on this thread, so I am behind.

Dark Reign Hood #1 - I pre-ordered the first issue because of Jeff Parker. However, between the time I pre-ordered the book and the time I got, I am pretty much tired of seeing the Hood in almost every Marvel comic. That said, I was surprised on how much I enjoyed the first issue. Parker really did a great job setting up the mini and gave a nice hook at the end. I am still not sure if I will get the rest of the series, but that has nothing to do with the quality of the series but just being a bit tired already of Dark Reign.

Batman and Robin #1 - Not sure what I say about this book except that it is my favorite DC book now. Loved it. If you were a fan of All-Star Superman, you have to pick this up. I know that some people complained that Tim Drake should have been Batman, but I think from a pitch standpoint it very easy to explain that Robin (which most people think is Grayson) is Batman. This issue is was even mentioned by EW in their top 10 things of the week.

Red Robin #1- I am not a huge fan of both Chris Yost and Ramon Bachs. They both do good work, but they are not creators that make me "buy" a book. I also went into this series thinking, do I need to get this book. Well, I really loved the first issue. Yost did a great job on setting up the first issue and making you want to come back for more.

JSA vs Kobra #1- If you are fan of JSA or Checkmate or that Faces of Evil Kobra one-shot, you have to get this mini. I thought the first issue was a good set-up but Eric Trautmann provided enough action that you didn't think this was just a set-up issue. Don Kramer's art was just fantastic. I don't know if it is because he had more time or a different inker, Michael Barinski, but in some places his art reminded me of Phil Jimenez or George Perez, in terms how detail his art was. To me this is a must buy. While DC has screw-up the JLA, they seemed to know what they are doing with the JSA.

Chew #1 - The overall premise is a police detective has the ability to get a psychic impression from any food he eats. He does not have any control so he restricts himself to eating beets which are the only food he does not get impressions from.

Overall I enjoyed the book, but I think I was expecting more of a funny "ha ha" approach while the book took more of a straight forward look at a strange circumstance. I do not want to undersell the humor because the world does have a funny setup. The art is really good, really helps to shape the feel of the title.

Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan #1 (of 3) (IDW) - This was a fun issue as I haven't watched the movie in years. It feels fresh to me right now. The art is pretty good although the rendering on some of the faces varies a bit. It's only a 3 issue series so it's not a big commitment.

Buck Rogers #1 (Dynamite) - This issue was also a lot of science fiction fun. It reminded me a lot of the recent Warlord #1 issue from DC. The story and art both reminded me of that issue. I couldn't get that out of my head and it kinda bugged me. I was a fan of the Buck Rogers in the 25th Century TV show in 1980. I'm going to check out issue #2 because I think this is a well made comic.

Absolution #0 (Avatar) - Violent (John stay away) story, but well told. What happens when a hero gets tired of bad guys not getting "justice"? The legal system may not be able to put them away or take them out, but someone can....

Batman & Robin #1 (DC) - Best Batman comic I've read in years.

Batman: Streets of Gotham #1 (DC) - Weak art, implausible story, extraneous Bat-book. I'll pass. $1 bin fodder.

Chew #1 (Image) - What happens in a world where chicken is illegal and a detective gets psychic "flashes" from every food (except beets) that he puts in his mouth?

Cursed Pirate Girl #1 (Olympian Publishing) - Wow! What a great book! I won't go so far as to say it will be the next "Bone" (but maybe it will). It will at least be the next "Castle Waiting" (another all-ages book I love).

Last Days of Animal Man #1 (DC) - I liked this story, nice tale set in the DCU of the near future.

Lockjaw & The Pet Avengers#1 (Marvel) - Fun comic, I picked it up on a lark at the LCS. It's $2.99, and that's why I tried it. I would have never picked it up had it been $3.99

Red Robin #1 (DC) - OK, but Tim (Drake) Wayne was acting out of character as a plot device, IMO. I'll probably pick this series up out of $1 bins down the line.

Resurrection#1 (Oni) - Really good post-apocalyptic story about rebuilding earth after the alien invaders pack up and leave.

Viking #1 (Image) - Art is absolutely beautiful, story is somewhat incomprehensible.
