Carol Danvers gone?? **solicits w/Spoiler**

Post by BobBretall »

I just noticed that last month's solicit (which was *Classified* on-line, but printed in the catalog) as well as this month's solicit indicates that Carol Danvers is OUT as the title character in the monthly Ms. Marvel comic, which will apparently follow the Moonstone character who is wearing her old costume in the pages of Dark Avengers.......

What do people think?

Just a few months ago I was recommending Ms. Marvel as a GREAT read, and Carol Danvers as a GREAT character, now that is all on it's head as Carol is gone from her own book.

I'm not really sure I have any interest in reading the monthly adventures of Moonstone in a Ms. Marvel outfit.

From the pages of Dark Avengers. Now it can be revealed. After the fall of Carol Danvers, the villainous Moonstone has now taken up the mantle of the world's greatest super-heroine. And don't worry...she's gonna save the hell out of you.

The Dark Reign is in full effect. Carol Danvers is dead.
Moonstone has taken on the mantle of Ms. Marvel. And the only hope for the forces of good is...Machine Man?! Brian Reed & Patrick Olliffe kick off a new chapter in the legend of Ms. Marvel!

All I can say is: BOOOOO!!!!

I like the current Ms. Marvel book by Brian Reed. Good stuff there. I very likely won't follow this change.

I know post-House of M they've been trying to rehabilitate her as the Wonder Woman of the Marvel U.

I guess that's not working out as well as they'd hoped.

Ms. Marvel has been slowly moving it's way to the top third of my stack in terms good reading. I've like the character development and the supporting cast has been interesting.
I know post-House of M they've been trying to rehabilitate her as the Wonder Woman of the Marvel U.
This to me is like taking removing Diana Prince from Wonder Woman and putting Zayna from the Wonder Twins in the costume....

I'll continue to give it a try but it'll be on a short leash so to speak.

I LOVE Carol Danvers so this bums me out. But the truth is this title has been in the lower 3rd tier for awhile after a strong start and I can't really say that the change is for the worse. I'm going to give this a try as I liked Moonstone plenty in the Thunderbolts, but I hope Carol isn't gone for long.

This is kind of par for the course these days. It seems like a lot of titles shift directions every 6 to 12 issues. Why should Ms Marvel be any different? I mean how many different takes on the character have they had for this series so far? By my count we've had the following:
-"why give Ms Marvel a series"
-"be the best hero possible post House of M"
-"Ms Marvel, Agent of the Initiative"
-"leader of the Lightning Squad"
-"who/what is Ms Marvel"
-the current "secret agent"

Some of these were better than others. Each involved notable changes to the status quo for the character to some degree. But is there really any reason to be shocked that they are shifting directions again with this next arc?

I'm curious is Carol Danvers will still be in the book in some capacity during the Moonstone arc.

I agree with you John, now that you point out all the various directions the book has taken over it's relatively few issues.....

That being said, I'm not a big fan of the "bad guy taking over a hero's identity" riff in Dark Reign, I'm bailing on Ms. Marvel for the duration, my last issue will be #37.

I may pick it up as back issues down the line somewhere, but no more "off the rack" for me, I'll vote with my wallet.

PS: My *spoiler* in the thread title was referring to the line in the solicit that Carol Danvers is dead...... Not sure if she's really dead, or how long she'll stay dead, but Carol Danvers was the character I was following, not the Ms. Marvel costume.

I am on the fence about this book, and what is going on with Thunderbolts. I do not mind the general idea of Dark Reign, but that does not mean I want to read about the Dark Reign cabal in an ongoing monthly title. I think my next issue of Thunderbolts will be my last.

I am more of a wait and see approach with Ms. Marvel because in general I do not mind Moonstone as a character. I still have not read the most recent issue of Ms. Marvel. I heard the rumor about the switch, and I have not felt motivated to read the book.

I read and bought all the issues up to around 26. Hated the Civil War issues and the rest of it just never really grabbed me. Which is to bad I think Ms. Marvel is an interesting character, and maybe how I feel is either because they keep changing direction with the book or they are having trouble finding the core of the character that clicks with the fan base.

I'm a fan of Brian Reed's Carol Danvers more than I am of Carol Danvers in general. I have faith in Reed and I'm going to stick around to see where he goes from here.

This move isn't without precedent. Let's not forget Thor was Beta Ray Bill for awhile, Rhodey replaced Tony Stark, Bucky replaced Cap, etc. etc.
