Good question. It has been a while since the first first issue shipped on 2008-10-01.Koete wrote:Speaking of lateness, what happened to Four Eyes? We got one issue and it feels like it's been 2 or 3 months and we haven't gotten a second issue.
Lateness

I was in the shop tonight and was listening to vince, chris, and Dave rave about Northlanders on the 11 O'Clock podcast -- much to Wood's chagrin.Koete wrote:Speaking of lateness, what happened to Four Eyes? A new issue came out last week.
It was #3.
Unless this is vol.2 and I haven't been looking, isn't that about an issue every 4 or 5 months? Seems like #1 came out Feb or March last year.
Northlanders is up to #13...Trev wrote:I was in the shop tonight and was listening to vince, chris, and Dave rave about Northlanders on the 11 O'Clock podcast -- much to Wood's chagrin.Koete wrote:Speaking of lateness, what happened to Four Eyes? This is #3 of the 2nd arc, completely different set of Vikings from a different part of the world and a different time period. Maybe it's better than the first few issues, which I thought - to say the least - left a lot to be desired.Trev wrote:I was in the shop tonight and was listening to vince, chris, and Dave rave about Northlanders on the 11 O'Clock podcast -- much to Wood's chagrin.Koete wrote:Speaking of lateness, what happened to Four Eyes? I didn't follow it after the first issue. I love DMZ, which is what led me to Northlanders, but it just didn't grab me.Wood wrote:This is #3 of the 2nd arc, completely different set of Vikings from a different part of the world and a different time period. Wood is the picture of perfection with Northlanders. Issue 13 just came out. Issue 1 was published January 2008. Issue 13 has a February publication date. By my count that is 13 issues in 13 weeks.
I've been loving this book. It is a crazy story of the brutality of Norse history. As a series this has been a 4+ in the 1-5 scale.
Now, if you want to talk lateness, how bout Halo. There is a book that has taken over a year to publish the first three issues that were supposed to be monthly. I know that there were supposed to be problems with the licensing but come on. How much can that hold it up. Then we have Black Summer, 15 months to do eight issues.
I can deal with Short Delays but... I will never understand how short limited runs get so late. Shouldn't you have a good portion of the run done by the time the first one hits the press?
Speaking of which, anyone know what happened to Infinite Horizon?

I'd have to dig up the expected shipping dates to know if it hit those or not. But those 13 issues shipped over the course of 14 months. An issue didn't ship in June but two shipping in July. No issue shipped in December 2008 either. Still, that isn't too bad, particularly given how much else Brian Wood is doing these days. I certainly wouldn't consider 13 issues in 14 months as chronically late or anything like that. Now those other items you mentioned certainly qualify as that...astyak wrote:Wood is the picture of perfection with Northlanders. Issue 13 just came out. Issue 1 was published January 2008. Here's an example of lateness that most certainly does piss me off:

So in other words, because JMS and Weston got "better" gigs that pay more, those of us who have bought 9 issues of a 12 issue maxi series may have to wait indefinitely for any conclusion? That SUCKS.Super-God~Dan~It! [de La Mancha]
What's going on with The Twelve?
JQ: What's going on with The Twelve?
THE TWELVE has momentarily become a casualty of the success of its creative team. First JMS became one of the most sought after writers in Hollywood following the release and success of the film he wrote, CHANGELING.
Then, Chris Weston signed on to do conceptual art and storyboarding for a completely separate film project at around the same time! So for the moment, while they stick pick away at it, THE TWELVE is on hold until such time as Joe and Chris free up from their incredibly hectic schedules. But here's a page from #9 to tide you over for awhile.
But can you blame them? It's a problem with the system in this case more than anything else. I'm sure their contracts were constructed in a way that allowed this. And even if they weren't, Marvel might have allowed it simply as a business decision.Wood wrote:Here's an example of lateness that most certainly does piss me off:

Of course I can blame them. Making the smart personal decision and letting the fans down are not mutually exclusive. As a consumer of The Twelve, I am disappointed that a monthly maxi series now appears to be halted 3/4ths of the way through. Ultimately I could care less what the reasons for that are, just as I'm sure JMS and Weston don't much care that we readers are dissatisfied.Trev wrote:But can you blame them? I have to agree with Jason on this. While I understand the decision, I think it sends a clear message that they don't take the commitments they make on doing comics as seriously as they do other jobs that come up later.Wood wrote:Of course I can blame them. Has JMS ever finished a limited series on time? Rising Stars had delays and now The Twelve. I'm thinking Midnight Nation may have stayed on track but I don't recall.
Didn't Bullet Points finish on time?John wrote: Has JMS ever finished a limited series on time? Rising Stars had delays and now The Twelve. I'm thinking Midnight Nation may have stayed on track but I don't recall.

Minor nitpick Trev but I wasn't the one who said the aforementioned quote, I think somehow when you clicked on the quote button it truncated as coming from me, when it was by John in response to my original post.Trev wrote:Didn't Bullet Points finish on time?Wood wrote: Has JMS ever finished a limited series on time? You're right Wood. I went back and properly attributed it.Wood wrote:Minor nitpick Trev but I wasn't the one who said the aforementioned quote, I think somehow when you clicked on the quote button it truncated as coming from me, when it was by John in response to my original post.Trev wrote:Didn't Bullet Points finish on time?Wood wrote: Has JMS ever finished a limited series on time? I'd forgotten about that one. Seems like any limited series over about 6 issues seems to be a problem for him to finish on schedule.Trev wrote:Didn't Bullet Points finish on time?John wrote: Has JMS ever finished a limited series on time? This bit with the Twelve is really annoying. All of the momentum that the story had built up will have died down by the time the series finishes. Yet another reason for people to wait for the trade...
