Looking forward to reading both Death Sentence (especially with your 5/5) and Cryptozoic Man, mostly out of just curiousity-not my style normally

I too would love to hear more of your thoughts on Cryptozoic Man #1 as well. I bought this book and have yet to read it. I did start it late last night but was confused by the first couple of pages. Admittedly I fell asleep on page 4 so I will assume my confusion had more to do with my mental state then the book. I will try it again tonight.

I have always thought Walter Flanagan was a fairly talented artist and I have enjoyed most of his work. Bryan Johnson's writing on the other hand I personally have never liked. He is very good at what he does but it tends to be a little too disturbing, even for horror to my taste.

So I have now read Cryptozoicman #1, I must say the feeling that I had little idea what was going on hasn’t changed much. This issue felt like a whole-lot of setup to me. We met the two main characters and listen to one preach at the other for most of the book but not really explain much. The couple of pages that take place on the residential street I also have no idea how they fit into the story. I still enjoy Walter Flanagan’s art but have very little idea what I read. As wrong as this probably is I’m going to give it another issue just to see where this goes, but at this point I have no idea what to expect. I certainly wouldn’t suggest others pick this up, but I need to feel like I gave it a fair shot and at this point I simply have no idea what this book is yet. Kind of like a train-wreck I am compelled to not only look at but move in for a better look.

I actually fine Bryan Johnson (the character/ person) that appears on the Comic Book Men television show and the Tell ‘em Steve Dave and Why Bry? podcasts to be a fairly funny dry wit. Shakespeare he will never be confused for but I still find him funny. The screenwriter of Vulgar and comic book scribe of Karney and War of the Undead Bryan Johnson on the other hand is the one that makes me question his mental health and my own sanity for viewing and reading those works.

Cryptozoic Man - For my rating you really have to understand how much a fan of Norm Breyfogle and Flanagan's art reminded me of that style. For the story I did not care for it but it was not bad. The art was sooooo good that it promoted it to a high rating. Death Sentence I absolutely loved everything about it.

I gave it a 3/5 but I am not continuing with it. I did however pre-order the next two issues. I really liked the art but did not like the story.

So how big is your backlog of comics to read? You get more than I do but seem to be reading around two dozen less comics a week than I do which implies you have a large backlog that is growing in size each week. Is that the case? And, if so, how do you pick what you read and when you read it?

1) HUGE backlog. Rather not discuss :) Sometimes the work week is longer than expected and even includes weekends. Also a lot of family in town lately on the weekends and I can't read my usual 30 books on Saturday and Sunday.
This downward trend is leading me to believe I need to make cuts so I don't think I will be buying a lot of new titles for awhile and I am going to cut a lot of Marvel. Maybe this coming months order will be less than yours. I am hoping to bring it eventually down to 150 from 220 which is more of a practical number for me.

2) This one is easy. I pick what I feel like reading and in the mood for. That is probably why I enjoy so many of them.

Both of those answers make sense. There is a lot of great stuff coming out and picking what not to get can be challenging sometimes.
