From Ace's FB page.....

"We will be posting an update this Friday on when parking passes will go on sale! Should have all the details by then. Stay tuned!"

Only a little over 400 likes on their page so, hopefully, not many people will jump on this when it goes live.

Gentlemen, start your engines...... :)

And? I read about server meltdowns today. Did anybody finally get parking?

Yes, just like SDCC ticket, the Ace parking site could not handle the load. I was on the Facebook page watching the thread of comments (and adding to it myself) about an inability to get in. When I'd get the page to come up, the map would not work for picking any garages, etc. (why they can't have simple links is anyone's guess, waiting for the map images with the clickable links to load was a major source of sitting around.

Then, about 40 min in, some guy who was able to actually get in posted a direct link to the page to buy parking under the convention center. I followed that & after a few tries was able to get that page to load. Entered my info & then the confirmation page after purchase refused to load (timeouts again), but I got a confirmation e-mail with a link so I should be able to go back in a few days & print out my passes.

All said, took me just under an hour but I got 5 days of parking under the convention center for $16/day ($10 parking & $5.95 "handling fee" for each day). But it's worth it to be right under the con.

Nothing for me. I tried at 9am and gave up about 30 minutes in when it looked like their server crashed. I tried several times but the closest I got was the map with no clickable lots.

It seems like this "secret" is out and everyone knows about it. At least ACE has been giving updates and says to try again in a week or so. I wonder if they will announce it once it goes live? Probably best not to and I'll be checking every day.

Even though the badge is now free for me, I'm really thinking of switching SDCC for Wonder Con next year for less hassles. That is, until Anaheim becomes too much.

This is true. Never say never. And I always relent, don't I?

I almost did Anaheim this year. The con hotel was affordable and next to the con. That would have been nice for a change since SDCC is all about rentals, motels far out, and parking now.

I arrived in San Diego Monday night in time for a fun meal with my sister and one of her friends. In past years we've barely been able to sneak in a quick lunch with her on the way to the hotel but this year we actually got to spend some quality time with her which was fun.

Yesterday, my sister and I had an enjoyable afternoon going to the missions and Old Town in San Diego with some friends and then having a nice dinner away from the Comic-Con chaos.

Today was Previews night which got off to a good start for me. I am happy to be able to report that Peter David has made a great recovery from his stroke. While he might not be completely recovered, he is doing remarkably well. Over the years, I've talked with Peter David a number of times and had a group dinner with him a time or two. Seeing him in good health and good spirits really started the convention off well for me.

As soon as I got in the hall for Preview night, I got in line for an exclusive toy which I was unable to get. Other than that I had a good time at Preview night. I went to the CBR Yacht party with a friend and had a great time before meeting up with my sister and other friend for a nice meal at the Marriott.

So far, three nights in San Diego and three nice meals with friends.

Tomorrow is the podcasting panel which should be fun. If you are there, please say hello afterwards.

Yet another great day at Comic-Con.

I managed to walk all of the floor over the course of the morning and early afternoon. Somehow I manage to not spot a few bother so either I missed an aisle or two or they were blocked by crowds. I have plenty of time to find them so it wasn't a big deal. I talked with a lot of the press people at the various companies and encouraged them to get more engaged with the Previews Spotlight episodes. We'll see what comes of that.

One big takeaway for me was just how much ownership can really motivate some people. I was also impressed by how happy people seem to be this year. I've not heard much complaints about how things are going this year. All in all, things are running very smoothly. Yes, the lines can be long but that is the nature of Comic-Con these days.

The 8th Annual Podcasting Panel went great. John Siuntres did a great job moderating it and everyone seemed to have a good time. I finally had the pleasure of meeting Cameron and Christina of DCBService.com. I've been shopping with DCBS for nearly ten years and while I've traded numerous emails with them and have had Cameron on the podcast for a Back Issue Spotlight, this was the first time I've actually met them face to face. I had a great time talking with them.

After that, I went to an author signing. Technically, I stood by while my sister went to it but I'm a fan of the author so I'm counting it. Afterwards I had another fun dinner with friends before heading back to the hotel to edit and upload the podcasting panel for release tomorrow.

I woke up a bit tired. As usual, it took forever last night to upload the episode. At least this year it was just the podcasting panel and not that plus the Previews Spotlight for July and a Weekly Comics Spotlight. It is amazing how much more time I have to enjoy con this year since I don't have numbers to crunch and episodes to edit and upload while here.

After breakfast at the hotel, I started the day at the Omni taking in the Saban Power Rangers Media Experience which was fun. I got a chance to talk with the cast of the current season: Power Rangers Megaforce. They are a young group of talented actors that seem to be enjoying the opportunities the show if giving them. They have another ten episodes of Megaforce to air before the new season Power Rangers Super Megaforce starts. That season adapts Gokiager which paid tribute to the entire (then) 35 year history of the Super Sentai shows in Japan. Saban also had a few other Rangers there: the Red Time Force Ranger and the Turbo Red Rangers. The first Red Turbo Ranger, played by Jason David Frank, stared out as the original Green Ranger, then became the first White Ranger before becoming the Red Zeo Ranger and then the Red Turbo Ranger and the years later the Black Dino Ranger. The secorn Red Turbo Ranger later became the Blue Space Ranger. The current cast grew up on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and seem to like the fact that previous Rangers are coming back for guest appearances. I was pleasantly surprised that the current cast has seen and seems to enjoy the Japanese shows they are adapting. All in all, it was fun to get to meet the cast and see how Saban is marketing the show. Seeing the helmet that will serve as the case for the full 20 season set available in December was also cool.

After that, I walked the floor a bit before going to the State of the Industry panel. The tone of the panel was upbeat and there was a great back and forth between the retailers, the publishers and Diamond. That in and of itself seems to indicate a health market. I bumped into Brian Chrisman from CGS afer that and got a chance to talk with him for a bit which was fun. Brian is a great guy and someone I look forward to talking with every year at Comic-Con.

I spent about 45 minutes in line attempting and failing to get into the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. panel but I knew when I got in line the odds were not great that I'd get in. I was with friends so I got in some good conversation time. After that, I headed under the sails to check out that area for a while before heading over to the Samsung Experience. That was one of the man pop-up venues surrounding Comic-Con. It was fun but a little loud. I headed back over to the exhibit hall for an author signing and to do a little shopping. I finally found he last issue of A Distant Soil I was missing. Still no luck finding Nikolai Dante v3 TPB but since they guy at 2000AD said it was out of print, I wasn't too surprised.

After a brief sit down in a friend's hotel room, my sister and our friends headed out to a few parties. We got into the Engadget party which was fun. I'd never been in that venue before and was glad I finally got a chance to do so even if it was a few years too late for why I'd originally wanted to get into the place. (Years ago my white sneakers didn't make cut for the dress code so I couldn't get in.) After that, we headed back over to the Samsung Experience for the Veronica Mars party which was a ton of fun. They had an impressive selection of food but none of it was safe for me to eat. So, once I got back to the hotel around midnight I was finally able to get something to eat for the first time since breakfast. Going to Comic-Con with food allergies can be done but it can also be a bit challenging.
