I think it must be that I've tried, and tried, and tried again, to get into reading Wonder Woman books, and never could. I can't pin down exactly what has me hooked on this incarnation of her, but hooked I am.BobBretall wrote: I couldn't even make it through issue #5. It cemented my decision to drop the series. So Travel Foreman goes from Animal Man to Birds of Prey [replaced by Steve Pugh].
Jesus Saiz goes from Birds of Prey to Resurrection Man.
Fernando Dagnino goes from Resurrection Man to Suicide Squad.
I guess these shifts happen to spark interest? Or maybe whoever is drawing Suicide Squad had to leave and they needed to move things around so Pugh could be on Animal Man?
Either way, it doesn't really matter to me as these artists are all okay except Foreman. The art in Animal Man is god awful imo, although I wonder how much is due to the coloring. So now Birds of Prey will be in danger of being my least favorite art book.

And so does my money. Not buying this without Saiz. Really hate this move. Hate it.abysslord wrote: Jesus Saiz goes from Birds of Prey ...
EDIT - Even had to tweet it to Swiz ...
Perry @Ptsteelers
@swierczy I am so sad that I have to stop reading a good comic. Love you and Saiz together. LOVE IT. Sadly, not buying Foreman. Bad move DC.
SOOO mad.

Good for me on Animal Man. I was loving the series' writing and tolerating the art. I love Pugh, so this will be good all around.abysslord wrote: So Travel Foreman goes from Animal Man to Birds of Prey [replaced by Steve Pugh].

I love Res Man, so Saiz taking over art there is good.
BoP? I like it, but not enough to tolerate Foreman's art, so I'll likely drop the series.
Suicide Squad? Not getting it, so I don't care what they do on it.
This last part is important. How many people out there are like me? Switching teams around might provoke me into dropping a book, but it's very unlikely to get me to START buying a book.
For example, I love Scott Clark & Dave Beaty, but I won't buy Grifter just because they took over art on it. Dagnino is OK on art on Res Man, but his art is not going to get me to start buying Suicide Squad.
I'm much more of a "writer" guy. If Scott Synder started writing Green Arrow, I'd get it. If any artist started drawing it, I'd still not get it.BobBretall wrote: This last part is important. I'm HOPING Foreman's art was decent but the coloring/inking made it look so awful because I like Birds of Prey right now. But again, being a writer's guy, even if it's just like Animal Man's art I will buy it as long as the story is good.

There are exceptions to this, of course. There usually are.

Well at least there's a good reason for Foreman's move:
http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/20 ... nimal-man/
http://robot6.comicbookresources.com/20 ... nimal-man/
Why couldn't he want to draw Green Arrow or Firestorm. I'm guessing those books are already getting ready to exit for tier 2.“The change on Animal Man boils down to the reason I was on the book to begin with, which was that I needed to take on a job after my mother died (to deal with the financial end of someone being sick for a while and then passing) and Animal Man was the only thing DC was going to let me do. Which in any other time frame would have been perfect,” Foreman wrote. “But really the context of me dealing with the death of my mom and drawing the kind of content in Animal Man just burned me out sooner than I thought.”
Foreman, who before Animal Man was best known for his work on Com.x’s Cla$$war and Marvel’s Immortal Iron Fist, launched the series in September with writer Jeff Lemire as part of DC’s New 52. But with the solicitations for March’s Issue 7 came the news that Pugh would fill in as artist — well ahead of today’s announcement. Pugh continues his fill-in with Issue 8 before becoming the regular artist the following month.
“I had hoped to stay on the book until at least the spring so that the artist I wanted to replace me was free from his commitments,” Foreman continued, “but I would have ultimately just dragged the book down if I did, because it was becoming harder and harder to concentrate on the work. Steve was bending over backwards on his fill-ins to keep the book on schedule so you have to keep that in consideration. Really, he won’t skip a beat once he’s doing the book full time.”

I don't really follow teams like a lot of people here so normally switching doesn't really affect me. However, the move of Foreman to BoP quite possibly could result in me dropping it. Like a couple others have said before, I was tolerating the art on Animal Man because I was enjoying the story. I actually almost dropped Animal Man after issue #1 but luckily gave it another issue. However, I'm currently borderline on BoP anyway, the story isn't holding me like it did prior to the reboot (which is what I was afraid of when I read what they were going to do with the series). If it ends up having artwork like Animal Man, that will be the final straw and I will drop the series.
As for Resurrection Man and Suicide Squad, I'm reading both and enjoying them so I will probably be keeping them no matter what happens.

I was really enjoying the art on Animal Man, so I'm sorry to see Foreman go. I think his style was perfect for the story being told. It also reminded me of Larry Stroman on X-Factor from back in the day, which was a nice nostalgic twist. If Foreman moved over to X-Factor now it would probably vault X-Factor into my top three books. I'm not familiar with Pugh, but the story is good enough to keep me on at least long enough to determine if I like the new artist or not.
At most, putting favorite creators on a property will cause me to look at something I otherwise might have ignored. I think this is probably pretty common, since many people are saying "Before Watchmen is horrible, but I'll probably try out ____ because ____ is working on it." No one is saying they will definitely get anything in Before Watchmen because of a creator.
It's a dangerous move to switch creators around. I'll drop a book like a hot potato if the art is no good. It will take me longer for writing, but a poorly written book will be dropped also. I won't follow creators to a product I don't care about. Jim Lee is the only person I will buy exclusively based on art -- I think this is why I'm continuing to collect Justice League, 'cause the story isn't doing much for me. And I think even that's more habit from when I was a kid.BobBretall wrote:This last part is important. How many people out there are like me? Not for me. If I like a character, but he is being ruined by the writing, IE Fraction's Dr. Strange, it absolutely pisses me off. Same for mediocre writing. I like a character because of the characters ideals, language and attitude, not because how cool he looks, what he is doing or what he use to be (Not saying that is what you were saying either )boshuda wrote:Exactly.torchsong wrote:Character or subject trumps all.

However, A good writer can make me care about characters I never have before, JUST because of the writing. To me;
A very good writer can keep me on a book forever
A good writer needs a decent artist to keep me
An average writer needs a very good artist to keep me
A weak writer, even with a fantastic artist, will lose me eventually.
To me, just my standpoint and I understand others have different views, art, without substance or meaning, is just pretty pictures.
I can learn to love new characters, and when somebody messes up a beloved character enough I'm out, but I won't follow a creator on to a concept I don't care about. I'll wait until there's enough positive buzz that I have to try it out. I've been burned too many times following a creator to a project I was apathetic about. The most recent example that really made me decide not to blindly follow creators was Kirkman's Super Dinosaur. I wasn't too interested in the concept, but I love Walking Dead, had just read Brit, and I was on a Kirkman high in general so I ordered the first few issues. I barely finished issue one and the rest sit in a box somewhere.Perry wrote:Not for me. Absolutely true. And that IS the writer's job. The art should hook you and the writer should keep you after you've been hooked.Perry wrote: However, A good writer can make me care about characters I never have before, JUST because of the writing.
But I'm not going to find out if a writer is any good or not if I'm not at least intrigued by the character or concept first and foremost. I love Stephen King's kid, but if Joe Hill's writing a book about macrame'...I'm gonna have to pass.

I wish DC wouldn't do so many crossovers so soon. That said, I believe that the Batman titles are tie-ins and not actual crossovers. For example, the story does not begin in one issue and then is continued into another.BobBretall wrote:Wow! Looks like May is "Crossover Month" @ DC
