RI Food Bank Free Comic Day

Post by RadConsv »

Hello Everyone!

I just wanted to let you know that we will be having a Free Comic Book Day event at the Kids Cafés in Providence, Rhode Island.

In Rhode Island, nearly half of all school-aged children qualify for free or reduced-price lunches. To assist with dinner, Kids Cafe serves wholesome evening meals to more than 500 children at 10 sites in Providence and Newport.

The program, a partnership between the Food Bank and Boys & Girls Clubs and community centers, features meals prepared by the Community Kitchen program. Community Kitchen is a culinary training program that prepares unemployed adults for food service jobs. You can find out more about these programs at www.rifoodbank.org

So far we have purchased 500 “free” comic book day books, but certainly could use more “all ages” comics to supplement our stock (and hopefully have enough to include our Newport and Middletown locations. If you have any "all ages" comics you are looking to get rid of, please feel free to send them to:

Attention: Hank Johnson
Rhode Island Community Food Bank
200 Niantic Avenue
Providence, RI 02907

We are also creating a kids Café meal especially for that day. Does anyone know if there is a particular food craved by a particular super-hero? I thought I read that Superman’s favorite food was Beef Stroganoff, but I could be wrong. If anyone has any theme ideas, (i.e. Kryptonite Fries, Spidey subs, etc.) please feel free to share.

Thanks for your help,

Hank

Here's a link to a PDF with the kids menu from the old "Marvel Mania" restaurant that was open for a few years in the 90s on the Universal Citywalk. I went a few times, I wish it had stayed open, it was a "Planet Hollywood" of Marvel Super-Heroes.....

PS: Superman's fave dish was Beef Bourguignon with Ketchup (he tries to order it at the Planet Krypton restaurant in the epilogue of Kingdom Come) he has also used "Beef Bourguignon" as a code phrase w/ Lois on a number of occasions.
